A monthly membership forÂ
Artists who want to fall back in love with art again... and again... and again!
A monthly ongoing studio practice.
This isn’t a course you finish.
It’s a place you return to.
A space built around the real work of painting: showing up, exploring, and staying connected to your creativity over time.
Because the goal isn’t just to “learn gouache.”
It’s to actually enjoy painting… and keep enjoying it.
To make work you’re proud of.
To follow your curiosity.
To have a reason to sit down and paint, again and again.
A reason to paint for joy,
month after month
Â
Each month a new excuse to make time for your ART

Â
I’m a full-time traveling artist who trades the painting studio for national parks these days, chasing light in a camper with my family. Plein Air Magazine called me a Breakthrough Artist of the Year, but around here I’m just the guy who’ll remind you that the point was never the painting: it was the hour you got to spend making it and Im here to share that joy with you!

"Justin is a great teacher, and his enthusiasm for painting is infectious! He has managed to create such a positive learning environment for his students, and I loved being part of the community" - Djamila Knopf
FAQ
Everything you need to know
Gouache Studio is an ongoing monthly membership—not a course you complete. You get a new creative challenge and live demo each month, plus a supportive community. It's designed for painters who want a consistent reason to show up and stay connected to the joy of painting.
The Gouache Course is a structured curriculum focused on technical mastery—learning skills, techniques, and foundational knowledge. Once you complete it, you have a finished education.
Gouache Studio is an ongoing membership focused on joy, continued practice, and experimentation. It's a reason to keep painting month after month with community support, not a skills program.
Many painters do both: Take the Course to build skills, then join the Studio to maintain a joyful practice long-term.
The third Thursday of every month at 9:00 AM Pacific Time. It's recorded, so you can watch anytime that works for you.
- Monthly Live Demo (recorded for replay)
- Monthly Creative Challenge
- Studio Gallery to share your work
- Community feedback and encouragement
After each demo, Justin shares a creative prompt for that month. You use what you learned to explore the challenge, then share your results in the Studio Gallery. It's a way to apply your learning and stay engaged with the community.
All levels. Beginners learn fundamentals from the demos; experienced painters deepen their practice and explore new approaches. You learn from painters at different stages in a supportive community.
No. The monthly demos teach fundamentals if you're new to gouache. If you're experienced, you'll deepen your practice and explore new approaches.
Basic gouache supplies: paints, brushes, paper, water, and a palette. You don't need professional-grade materials. Justin designs challenges that work with whatever supplies you have.
- Monthly: $39/month (cancel anytime)
- Annual: $351/year (saves $40)
Yes. The monthly plan has no long-term commitment. Cancel anytime with no penalties.
Minimum: Watch the demo (30–60 minutes). Most members spend 1–3+ hours exploring the challenge and engaging with the community. It's flexible—you commit as much as you want.
Sharing is encouraged but optional. The Studio thrives when members show up and share, even when work feels unfinished. But you set your own pace.
